Ka’u Hospital was the first critical access hospital in the state to achieve meaningful use of the electronic medical record. Under the guidance and support of Hilo Medical Center, Ka’u Hospital adopted the Meditech electronic medical system in 2011 and have been systematically adding to the functionality of that system ever since to improve both patient safety and quality of care.
To that end, in April of 2013 we achieved Stage 6 designation of HIMSS Analytics Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model which only 9.4% of hospitals in the United States have attained – a tremendous milestone for a small rural hospital.
